An In-Home Body Portrait Session with Caitlin Schmitt
I got to witness Caitlin Schmitt being in deep relationship to her body. Sometimes she felt super connected and other times disconnected. There was so much grace and compassion as we all are in such unique relationships to our bodies and the way we notice how we feel towards it.
For me for any session, it’s never about forcing anyone to love their bodies and push them into anything like this. It’s about being present with what is real, what is alive and loving on their whole experience.
For Caitlin, this session was an intimate portrait session in her home in Durham, North Carolina. She was raw, she was real, she was quite fiery about the expereince as well. She felt super comfortable stripping down and just being with her full self.
I got to witness her in love for her body and in grief for her relating to her body.
We started in her bedroom as she began to move the energy through her body. She is an amazing body worker and artist (she helped me get off antipsychotics after being on them for 4 years).
We then moved to her bathroom tub where she moved through more grief and love and was in her body and out of her body.
Several days later we looked at the images together. And at one point we cried and just in awe of what we co-created together.
Each session so different. It’s never about creating a mood board but creating from the feeling of what is alive here and now and what wants to be expressed.
